All Hail The Conquering Chicken!

Jim Giannakis, does it again, and takes the kotei for the second time in a row, after a stellar perfomance. Meanwhile, the master of fluff, lord of photoshop-fu and creator of Naizen's last wish won the honor contest.

Dirty, dirty, birds...

 Επειδή το ζήτησε ο Νίκος:

So, here goes, a small report:

We were 26 people for this, not a huge crowd, but not bad either. The place was nice and cosy and we started exactly on time. I'm sorry but I don't remember a single name... Undecided

Round 1: Phoenix Shrine of Champions Enlightenment

He gets Kunji and another cavalry out second turn, but, even through Ring of Air it's not too difficult to stymie his attack. Also, it's practically impossible for him to get Ring of Fire out, even if I obliged to block at any point (no reason to, I only lost a province at 40+ honor).

Round 2 Kyuden Suzume dark paragons

On his 2nd turn he has Susumu exp, Bofana (what a pain!) and 2 ageless shrines and things don't look too good. Thankfully he doesn't have the murderous intent in his first attack and I have enough people and cards to deal with him later.

Round 3 Unicorn Tacticians-All stars Outsider Keep

His first personality is Tamago, and I see he also plays Utagawa, so I'm very careful with my duels. Haru also helped a lot. Poor Tamago got Peaceful Discoursed twice, and Patrolled the Roads once or twice. It could be more difficult but I got the right cards in hand.

Round 4 Crab KHexp boxable scouts

Not an easy matchup, but I know from experience (I was playing KHexp scouts myself for months) that it's very winnable. He gets 2 guys 2nd turn and 4! guys 3rd turn. I manage to lock him out of battle and he finally started seeing some gold afterwords. I finish the game at 44, I've got 3 provinces, a Distractions in Court and a Delayed Conflict in hand, so I feel rather safe. He's got double Hunting but doesn't have a Shameful anyway.

Round 5 Great Hall of Records hero semi-blitz

He's playing many boxable personalities but also the 8f on attack guy and the 5f on attack kensai. First turn he buys good gold and ditches the 8f guy. I buy a guy first turn, as I suspect he's got a Civility, and sure enough he plays one. I bow the guy and use the SH hoping that he doesn't have both unwavering and enough force boosts. A Last Stand and an Unwavering later, I'm down at 3 provinces with no gold and only a personality out. Not good. I stall for two turns, getting to 20 or so, and while I see some good cards, no duels are forthcoming. Finally I'm down to 1 province and 4 cards on my turn. I flip Kitsuki Horume, and he plays Know their Mind. Preparedness finally brings me a Haru and I play my Game of Dice. I finally draw into a duel of haiku and an adjudication, and proceed to chain 3 Talons to replenish my hand and gain the necessary honor to cross. Lots of bowing, force penalties, steel on steel, strength of the bamboo etc later, I've got 13 PS one card in hand and he's at 10f with 2 cards. He unwavers and I play my hamstrung. Talk about a nailbiter!

Round 6 TKM kensai

I start first and it isn't really a contest. He does play all Kuronada's available, but I've got Bokuko's, peaceful, patrolling and duel of haiku to deal with them. He also didn't see many weapons this game, making it hard to solo provinces.

Top 4

The Kensai guy was the only one who made ti with 4-2, and I'm playing him (best of 3). On the other table, it's the Crab scouts from my round 4 against LoDD magistrates.

First game: I lost the die and begin 2nd. He gets the perfect Kensai start with 2 rounds of gold and proceeds to get lots of Kuronada's on the table. I manage to stall him till I'm at 40, but on his last attack he played 2xModifications and 3xHundred-Fold Cut in the unopposed battles, making my saving play of Taiko xp plus favor rather hard to succeed. Oups, first loss of the tourney.

Second Game: I flip 3 goldmines and a Bokuko. Not bad at all. On his 2nd turn he makes a non-Kuronada guy, and I sword for hire him, Hamstrung for 4 and also buying Haru for f ull. My T3 i'm at 19 honor and he doesn't have a guy in play. This was over fairly quickly.

Third game: He again buys Kuronada's and a couple of Houken. I lose one province from his superloaded Kuronada with RSB, Hunger and armor of the Ryu, but Patroling (and a Hamstrung for his Unwavering) makes it impossible to get 3 provinces with 3 guys (as he did in the first match Tongue). All in all, this was a very difficult match when I started 2nd but much easied going first.

Finals: LoDD magistrates.

I'm a bit worried, as I haven't played honor vs dishonor for ages, but LoDD is more of a battle dishonor deck and I don't think I played more than 8 or 9 battle actions the whole tourney.

First game: i start with good gold and he gets gold screwed, buying only a single expendable. It was impossible for him to get back from that. I even got Kei (only there for fluff reasons and for lack of another big duelist) into play and got a province. Also drew into all my dishonor meta, but I didn't have to play any of them.

Second game: He gets some guys out, but even with The Second City he doesn't really have the force to bust provinces. I finally cross 40 after 2 OAS and some taxing the scum shennanigans, and he plays Burn the Village on my 2 dishonored boxables. I react with Distractions at Court and that's game.

So, in honor of my Kensai opponent, and because I don't really like the Kitsuki and the Togashi guys from SC and FL kinda suck, I chose Mirumoto Kojinrue. It was just a perfect way to close the CE season for me and give a last Banzai for Satsu and the gang. Thanks for reading this far!  Grin

Oh, btw, best cards of the tourney (besides the obvious ones: haiku, impromptu, adjudication) were Distractions at Court, Preparedness and Disreputable Deal, which fetched many a Peaceful/Haiku/Adjudication from the discard pile.

That's all, see you in EE!

TL;DR:

Let's think the unthinkable, let's do the undoable, let's prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.

Ωραίος. Καλά τους έκανες. Ελπίζω ο Organiser να μην έχει στιγματιστεί απο την επίθεση του Στάθη στους ΒΡΩΜΟΓΚΑΪΤΖΙΝ!
